Are you overweight? Find out by calculating your BMI (Body Mass Index)

A lot of people think they’re overweight even though they aren’t. Just because you don’t measure up to a supermodel doesn’t mean you’re bigger than you should be!  In fact everybody should have some body fat. The average man should expect his body fat to be 10 to 18 percent of his bodyweight. The figure for women is higher, in fact 18 to 25 percent of a woman’s bodyweight should be fat.

Calculate your BMI using the simple test below.

If the BMI-test shows that you are overweight (a BMI number exceeding 25) you should consider doing something about it for the sake of your health.

Please note: This test is meant as a guide only, and should not replace a visit to your doctor to discuss weight problems. The BMI test should not be used by body-builders as the weight of  the extra muscles could interfere with the calculation.

Body Mass Index (BMI) using height and weight is often used to determine if someone is overweight or obese.

Calculate it manually
Here are the steps to calculating your BMI manually:

* One: multiply your weight in pounds x 703

* Two: multiply your height (in inches) x your height (in inches)

* Three: divide the number in Step One by the number in Step Two to get your BMI

Don’t worry if the calculation method seems absurd. It works.

Remember:
Overweight is defined as a BMI of 25 or higher and obesity is 30 or higher. More importantly, your risk for diseases such as diabetes and heart disease or for premature death increases as your BMI increases.

The only secret to weight loss is to limit your intake of calories or to burn off whatever calories you take in.

It sounds simple really but go and ask anyone who’s been battling excess pounds and unwanted fat all his life and he’ll tell you it’s not.

Limiting the intake of calories and increasing physical activity takes a lot of discipline and motivation.

If you want to lose weight permanently, you always have to remember that it’s all about the things that you do everyday.

Sometimes the little things that when done everyday result to weight loss.

One simple activity that should help you lose the unwanted pounds is walking. Walking is a simple activity that anyone can do.  You’ll find out that walking a couple of minutes each day can help you lose weight.

By increasing your physical activity without increasing our food intake should guarantee you weight loss.  The good thing about walking for weight loss is you don’t need any special equipment or outfit to do it.

You don’t even need expert guidance to get into it. It also shouldn’t even give you any stress. All you need to do is get on your feet and just do it.

Walking aside from helping you lose weight also helps in making your body healthier.  Walking allows you to sweat out toxins, like other exercises help in making your skin more elastic, improves blood circulation, strengthens the bones and exercises he joints.

You can start by walking a few minutes each day. You don’t have to walk an hour if you don’t want to or if your body can take it. In the beginning you can incorporate this to your daily activities. You can also choose to do this exercise alone or use it as a bonding activity with friends or family members.

As your stamina increases, you can start to increase the time you spend walking each day.  You can make it your daily exercise routine by setting a specific time each day that you will walk.  Do not worry about speed. You don’t need to do high-intensity exercises to lose weight you just need to be more consistent and stick with your weight loss regimen.

It would also help if you live a healthier lifestyle.  You should stick to a sensible diet, one that will not leave you hungry and will give you energy to do your daily activities and yet not cause you to gain weight.
