There are numerous ways to lose weight. Some of these methods only promote rapid but unsustainable weight loss while there are methods that promote behavioral changes that lead to a lifetime of good health and good physique.

The best way to lose weight is to go the natural way without the aid of weight loss drugs, herbal teas, diet shakes, meal replacements and other weight loss products.

Of course the natural way is still the hardest way to go. It involves a lot of self-discipline and commitment. But when you stick to a good weight loss program, slowly you will be able to incorporate all the healthy habits into your lifestyle which lead to a lifetime of good health.

When going the natural way, there are two rules: eat healthy and engage in more physical activities. When you follow these two rules, you will not only lose weight, you will also live longer and enjoy life better.

To be able to succeed in losing weight, you must understand what causes weight gain and how you can avoid them. Eating healthy means not just counting calories, it also means eating more of the foods that are good for our bodies and limiting those that are not good for our health. For those who are obese, this means having to give up certain foods which are unhealthy. You can follow the modern food pyramid to know which foods you must have more of and which ones you can only take in minimum amounts.

Eating healthy also does not mean eliminating certain food groups from your diet as what some diet programs suggest. Be wary of fad diets such as the cabbage diet as these diets often do not promote healthy eating as the foods that are suggested in these types of diets are generally lacking in certain vitamins and nutrients.

Increasing physical activity is also important in having a healthy and fit body. If you are living a sedentary lifestyle then you must not engage in strenuous or high-intensity work outs right away. You can start by walking a few floors down your office building instead of taking the elevator. You can also do a few minutes of stretching after waking up. Later on, you can include sports such as swimming, tennis and other activities to your weekly schedule. Just add a few minutes of physical activity to your daily routine and move on to more strenuous activities as your body becomes used to it.
