Metformin Glocopage for Weight Loss
![]() |
Metformin (Glocopage) for Weight LossMetformin is a drug in the treatment of diabetes. Also known as Glucophage, Metformin controls the release of sugar from the liver to prevent the pancreas from releasing to much insulin into your blood stream. Some studies show that Metformin also aids in weight loss for non-diabetics. |
It works the same way for non-diabetics as they do for diabetics they control insulin levels in the blood.
When blood sugar levels rise, the pancreas releases insulin to control the sugar level. When sugar levels dip, your body “asks” for an energy boost and makes you hungry or makes you crave for more sugar, often in the form of carbohydrates. When a person consumes too much carbohydrate especially processed ones, such as food products made of refined sugar and flour, the excess sugar is stored in the body as fat.
If your body makes too much insulin, then a sensible diet and medication like Metformin should help you lose weight.
But if the your only goal for wanting to try is Metformin is to lose weight then you should remember that an active lifestyle and a healthy lifestyle has the same effect as Metformin so before you even run to the nearest drugstore, make sure to lead a healthy life first because it is the only sure way to lose weight safely. Living a healthy lifestyle also allows you to enjoy life better and live a longer life.
You must also check with your doctor if Metformin is safe for you. Although Metformin may be safe for the body, it may have adverse reactions to other medications you are taking. Like many other medications, Metformin can not be taken by people with heart conditions, kidney problems and others.
When you are already taking Metformin, you should still eat a sugar-less diet because Metformin is not a wonder drug that eliminates all excess sugar from your diet. If you take Metformin and continue to consume excessive amounts of carbohydrates and fat thinking the drug will take care of it for you, then you are in for a big disappointment because it is likely you won’t lose weight and instead gain several pounds.
At best, Metformin must be viewed as an aid to your weight loss program. It should help you lose the excess pounds, but it should not have to do everything for you. To get the best results you must follow a sensible diet and follow an exercise plan together with your Metformin intake.
